These days you can’t be a complete audio engineer without some skills with a soldering iron.  The era of the full-time maintenance engineer is long over for most recording studios, and engineers with some basic troubleshooting and repair skills are extremely valuable to any studio owner.  Students get to learn the art of soldering by building and repairing cables, and finally creating simple audio circuits from scratch.  They will also learn how to read and realize electronic schematic diagrams pertaining to audio circuitry.
